5th Period Chemistry Class Average Atomic Mass Question

Using the data table provided by your Chemistry Teacher (the dashingly handsome, always amusing, highly intelligent and all-around fascinating Mr. Coleman), make a comment underneath this post in which you answer the following questions:

1. Which of the isotopes listed are the same element? Explain your reasoning.

2. Explain why the mass of each isotope is not a whole number.

1. Isotope 1,2,4,5 are the same because they all have the same number of protons and electrons.

2. the mass is not a whole number because they are a different number of isotopes like isotope1 is different from isotope2

isotopes 1,2,4, and 5 are the same element which is(chromium)... Isotopes 3 and 6 are the same also their element is (iron)... i figured out that these were the same isotopes because they all have the same number of protons, and electrons. The mass's aren't whole numbers because the mass that is listed is just the average of all the basic atoms..

isotopes 1,2,4, and 5 are the same element and isotopes 3 and 6 are the same element. i think so because the data shows that these groups have the closest sets of protons neutrons and electrons.
The atomic mass is not a whole number because that number is the average of a group of numbers and a whole number wouldnt be as accurate

Isotopes 1,2,4 and 5 are all of the same element(Chromium). Isotopes 3 and 6 are also of the same element(Iron). I know that these are isotopes of the same atom because they have the same number of protons, which identifies an element as that element. The mass of each isotope is not a whole number because the masses listed are just averages of the most common atoms of that element.

isotope 1,2,4, & 5 are isotopes of the same element because they all have 24 protons, & isotope 3 & 6 are the same because they both have 26 protons, the AMU are decimals because they are the averages of all the atoms

The one that has the same Isotopes are 1,2,4,5 because they all have the same number of protons and electrons.

And isotope 3 and 6 are the same because they both have 26 protons and the AMU are decimals because they are the averages of all the atoms

Isotopes 1, 2, 4, and 5 are the same element as well as elements 3, and 6. Both groups of elements have the same number of Protons, therefore making them the same element.

Also, the mass of the Isotopes are not a whole number because the mass is the overall average of all atoms.

1... i would say 1.2.4.&5 are the same isotopes because they all have the same number of protons and electrons.

2... each mass is not a whole number because its an average of the numbers.

The isotopes that are the same element are isotopes 1,2,4, and 5 are all the same and isotopes 3 and 6 are also the same. They would have to be the same because they need to have the same number of protons.
The mass of each isotope is not a whole number because protons and neutrons don't weigh that exact number, its just an estimate.

1. Isotopes 2,4,5 are the same because they have their Mass(AMU) are the closest.

2. the isotopes mass is not a whole number because they are the average mass of all isotopes

The isotopes that are the same are 1,2,4,&5 are the same an 3&6 are the same. These have the same number of protons.
The mass numbers are all decimals because they are rounded since it is listed as the average,an mass is not normally in just one whole numbers.

1. Isotopes of the same elements have the same number of protons and different number of neutrons. In that case isotopes 1,2,4,5 would be the same element. Also 3 and 6 would be the same element.

2.Adding neutrons to atoms will affect atomic mass. When you add the number of protons to the number of neutrons you get numbers that are not whole.

1.) Isotopes 1, 2, 4, and 5 are the same and Isotopes 3 and 6 are the same. they are the same because 1, 2, 4, and 5 have an atomic number of 24. 3 and 6 both have the atomic number of 26. Even though the AMU is different the atomic number is the same and is the one that matters in determining the element.

2.) The mass is not a whole because it is the it is an average atoms of the element.

1. I think Isotopes 1,2,4 &5 and 3 and 6 all have the same isotopes. I think this because in order for isotopes to be the same, they must have the same number of protons and a different number of neutrons.

2. Because they are frequently small amounts of isotopes with an extra neutron in the nucleus. The number you see is the average of it all.

1. 4 and 5. 3 and 6. They have the same protons and electrons.

2.Their just an average of the numbers.

1. Isotopes 3 & 6 because they have 26 protons and neutrons, and 1,2,4 & 5 have 24 protons and neutrons they are the same because they are the same element.

2. They all have the same number of protons & electrons but different Numbers of neutrons.

1). Isotope 4 and 5 are the same because there elements are Choromium, And 3 and 6 are the same because there iron.

2). The mass of each isptope is not a whole number because they are just averages.
